Cooperation

ECLA cooperates fruitfully with several institutions of higher education, including:

BARD COLLEGE.   Leon Botstein, President of Bard, has been a generous supporter of ECLA from its inception. He is a member of ECLA's Council of Advisors.

BENNINGTON COLLEGE.   ECLA is currently seeking American accreditation. Meanwhile, students, who are not eligible to pursue a German degree will have the possibility to receive a U.S. BA degree from Bennington College in Vermont, a Liberal Arts College accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Elizabeth Coleman, the President of Bennington College, is a member of ECLA's Council of Advisors.

BUCERIUS LAW SCHOOL.   ECLA and Bucerius Law School in Hamburg began to cooperate in 2009 and the first step has been a faculty exchange. In the Winter Term 2008-09 Dr. Christian Bumke, Professor of law at Bucerius, taught a course on Contemporary Theories of Law and Social Justice at ECLA. ECLA faculty contributes lectures in the Bucerius liberal arts programme.

SWARTHMORE COLLEGE.   Alfred H. Bloom, President of Swarthmore, is a member of ECLA's Council of Advisors. In 2007 Stephen Maurer, Professor of mathematics at Swarthmore, taught a course on Mathematics as a Liberal Art at ECLA. Maurer is back for the winter term 2012, teaching a course on Logic and the Nature of Mathematics. ECLA participates in Swarthmore’s Study Abroad programmes.
